Search Engine WAR Winners & Losers
I’m not bias to any company in particular. My only requirement to use a search engine is to see how fairly and accurately they render results!
One very simple test is to use the exact search phrase as the title of one of your blog postings to see what the results will be. The winner of choice is, obviously, the one that will accurately list your blog posting at the top, for the simple reason that is an exact match! For this reason, and this reason only, I have officially switched, as of immediately, to Bing.
In addition to accurately giving me the result of an exact match of my search at the top of their listing, they also reward¹ their users! So, BING is the search engine winner in my book TODAY!
In the above video, I show how to configure Opera, the browser I recommend, for now, to block ads and the default search engine!
The List of Losers
The list below is a work in progress and, for now, the search engine losers are listed below in descending order from bigger to smaller looser:
- Google: Worst of them all put together!
- DuckDuckGo: Deceivers pretending to be the opposite of Google all the while being just a copy of them. I recently found out they are censoring me! No wonder, since they are just another Google in disguise. I deleted them from ALL my browsers and my cell phone!
- Yahoo!: Just as bad as the above or probably worse.
- Ask: Losers for a long time and continue to be!
- AOL: Oh my god! I can’t believe they still exist! Only listed here because they are also biased and therefore useless.
- Yandex: Hmmm … don’t really trust them. Regardless, they are not accurate and pick and choose what to show you! They also delete your web pages (from their database) based on what they decide was not correctly done in the HTML portion of your website. I mean, who cares if your website has HTML done incorrectly?! MANY are done incorrectly, specially these days that many non-webmasters create websites. I don’t recommend this search engine at all! They annoy the living out of me!
There are many others, but the above are the most popular and worth mentioning. For now, as stated above, the winner is Bing and only for the reason of accurately rendering what you’re searching for! But, I will keep on watching how they behave and if their accuracy falters, I will update this posting.
¹ At the cost of you letting them track you. So, be aware of that!
Other Alternative Tools
I suggest that people stop using Google, Microsoft, Adobe et al not only to support grassroot developers but also to stop enriching those that are enemies of humanity. A list of alternative options is below. This list will be updated as other options become known to me.
- Free and spy-free Email service: Protonmail.com
- Free video platforms: Odysee (Just remember: when the service is free, you become the product sold!)
- Internet browser: Opera and Brave. I’m concerned that Brave may actually be Chrome in disguise as service providers have sent me notifications stating that “Chrome” was used to log into their services. Also, I noticed that some of my websites’ plugins do not work on Opera. Therefore, I’m still not fully satisfied with any browser at the current moment, but I’m using both Opera and Brave back and forth for different things. - Equal/better MS Office alternative: OpenOffice (free); WordPerfect Suite (paid)
- Substitute applications for PDF production, Image Editor, Video Editor, Image Producer
- Google Drive: ProtonMail; Sync.com
